Wyoming Families First - "Child Welfare and Substance Abuse"
For the tenth program of the locally-produced
Wyoming PBS series "Wyoming Families First," the issues
surrounding substance abuse and child welfare will be explored.
The program will feature interviews with Rod Robinson and Beth
Marty from WYSTAR, a substance abuse treatment facility for women in
Sheridan, and a young woman named Molly who overcame an addiction to
methamphetamine and was recently reunited with her children.
"Molly's story is a powerful one about the addictive and destructive
nature of meth," said Aliza Sherman, the show's producer. "Her story
will hopefully help make people aware of the terrible impact meth can have
on families in Wyoming."
"When it comes to substance abuse by a parent or caretaker, our number one
priority is the safety of the children in their care," said Rodger
McDaniel, director of Wyoming's Department of Family Services. "With new
laws, we're able to better protect children when methamphetamine is
involved, and there are resources in place to help the entire family."
Filming for the tenth segment took place in Sheridan, Casper and
Cheyenne. The series is a joint effort between Wyoming's Department of
Family Services and Wyoming PBS to educate citizens throughout the
state about resources available to them.
