Wyoming Families First - "Enforcing Child Support"

In the seventh program of the locally-produced Wyoming PBS series "Wyoming Families First," Child Support Enforcement is examined.

The program features interviews with Ann Ruward, a custodial parent in Powell, and Rory Mack, a non-custodial parent in Cheyenne. Experts featured in this program include Brenda Lyttle, Child Support Enforcement Director with the Wyoming Department of Family Services and Janet Prosser, Executive Director of Basin Authority Child Support Enforcement in Cody.

"With this program, we wanted to define what child support is and explain why it is important," said Aliza Sherman, the show's producer. "We spoke to two parents on different sides of the child support enforcement experience to help illustrate the complex situations people face when dealing with child support."

"Child support enforcement is a critical part of bringing money into families to help them maintain self-sufficiency," said Rodger McDaniel, director of Wyoming's Department of Family Services. "We hope this show demonstrates that child support is not meant as a punishment for parents but is a financial obligation that is one of the many responsibilities of having a child."
