Wyoming Families First
About "Wyoming Families First"
Wyoming families are the focus of this new television series, produced in partnership by
Wyoming PBS and the Department of Family Services.
The "Wyoming Families First" 12-part documentary series will air on Wyoming PBS starting in October 2004 and will run through May 2004. Each month, one to two segments will air on a variety of topics ranging from domestic violence to economic assistance to foster care to the Wind River Reservation.
What is life really like in homes across Wyoming? Wyoming Families First will take you into the lives of real people and real families in Wyoming and on the Reservation. We will also introduce you to people in your community and at agencies throughout the state who help families and children.
This series seeks to answer the following questions:
- What are the issues families in Wyoming and on the Reservation are facing today?
- What are the programs and initiatives in place to help families and children?
- What are communities doing to help families and children?
- Where can you go for help if you are in need of assistance?
- What can we all do to support families and children in Wyoming?
"We're pleased to enter into a partnership with public television,"
said Rodger McDaniel, director of Wyoming's Department of Family
Services. "We'll be taking a look at topics including economic
assistance, adoption and foster care, the juvenile justice system and
family issues on the Reservation."
"This groundbreaking Wyoming documentary series will bring viewers into
the homes of families throughout the state who are dealing with a
variety of issues and situations," said Ruby Calvert, Program Director
for Wyoming PBS. "We hope that people who watch the show
will gain valuable information that in turn can help improve the lives
of families in our state or put someone in touch with the support they
need."
The series will run through May 2005. A broadcast schedule can be found
below, along with a behind-the-scenes look
at the filming of the series in the form of an online production diary.
