Masters of the Hornbow

SHEEPEATERS "Masters of the Hornbow"
Airs Thursday, November 29 at 7:00 PM

The Sheep Eater Indians of the Greater Yellowstone were famous throughout the Northern Rockies for their incredibly powerful sinew-backed bows. Made from the horns of the magnificent bighorn rams that roamed the high plateaus and mountains of this rugged region, the horn bows were prized possessions and a prime trade item for these mountain-dwelling people. The are of making these bows has largely been lost; but fortunately, Tom Lucas of Lander, Wyoming has succeeded in reconstructing that painstaking and time-consuming process. Tom grew up with Indian playmates and has made it his life-long mission to study the traditional arts and life-ways of his Native American friends. Masters of the Hornbow presents a fascinating glimpse of how one man's passion rescued this ancient art form from oblivion.
