Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night 2013Airs Friday, August 2 at 9:00 PM Despite uninviting weather conditions, an estimated 15,000 people gathered to hear the Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert Schonbrunn 2013 under the baton of Lorin Maazel. The hardy audience, which was forced to brave cold, wet and rainy conditions, heard a program made up of representative compositions by two giants of the world of opera who both celebrate their bicentennials this year, Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner.
The Vienna Philharmonic, which is completely at home in the world of opera through its work as the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera, and Lorin Maazel, himself a former director of said house, performed not only instrumental highlights of the two composers, but accompanied Tenor Michael Schade in two arias.
The free concert in the park of Schonbrunn Palace with the Vienna Philharmonic was performed this year for the tenth time and was broadcast on television and radio around the world.
