CASPER - Allegiant Air, which began offering flights from Casper to Las Vegas in 2008, was named the top performing airline in the low cost/niche category of Aviation Week's annual award program.

Allegiant has previously appeared in Aviation Week's rankings, which have been conducted annually since 1996, but this is the first time it has grabbed the top spot.
"Airlines with the leadership ability to maintain strong liquidity, good financial health, cost discipline and a focus on efficiency are those in the best position to take advantage of demand," said Michael Lowry, the ranking's project manager.

"Allegiant's business model is unique and has resulted in the airline having stronger financial health than any other airline, including legacy carriers." The ranking scores an airline's liquidity, fuel management, financial health, earnings performance and asset management. Allegiant earned a total score of 83. No. 2 on the low-cost airline list was Ryanair Holdings with a total score of 75.
